How to Protect The House From Fire?

Fire to this day, despite the gigantic technological development, poses a serious threat to humans. If it gets out of control, it can lead to great destruction. For this reason, every home should have special devices to detect the presence of smoke.

smoke detector

Why is a smoke detector necessary in every home?

The first signal that is a warning of the appearance of a fire is the presence of smoke. In the case of large fires, it is of course visible from a distance. However, it happens that the fire starts with a small flame, which can be quickly nipped in the bud. Then not much smoke appears, as a result, the danger can be easily overlooked.

A fire in a house or apartment is extremely dangerous for household members. Not only does it carry the risk of losing possessions, it can sometimes be a threat to health and even life. For this reason, a good smoke detector is crucial. With it, you can spot the danger in time, neutralize it or call for help.

How does a smoke detector work?

A smoke detector is a tool designed to detect the presence of smoke in a room. With it, a fire can be avoided or lives saved if it is too late to put out the fire yourself. When the smoke alarm detects smoke, a loud beep is immediately triggered. With it, the household members are warned of the danger. Nowadays there are various technologies that allow smoke detection. The exact operation depends on what type of detector you choose. So let's learn a little more about the available options.

What are the types of smoke detectors and which one is worth choosing?

There are two main types of smoke detectors. These are smoke alarms that are photoelectric and ionization smoke detectors. Photoelectric sensors are otherwise called optical, while ionization sensors are called isotopic.

Let's take a closer look at the operation of the basic types of smoke detectors:

• Photoelectric smoke detectors detect a threat by absorbing or scattering a beam of light. You can opt for absorption models, which consist of a receiver and an emitter. The emitter sends out an infrared beam, which should return to the receiver. If this does not happen, it means that the smoke has absorbed the light and an alarm is triggered. Another type of photoelectric smoke detectors are dispersive models. In these, the emitter sends a beam of light inside the housing of the device. As with absorption models, if the flow of light is disrupted, an alarm is triggered.

• Ionization smoke detectors are slightly more complicated devices. However, they are also very effective. They do not use light beams to detect smoke. They consist of two chambers that are separated by an electromagnetic plate. In one of them is isolated, “good” air, and in the other is that coming in from outside. If there is smoke in the air, the movement of the particles is disrupted and an alarm is triggered.

Nowadays, isotopic detectors are considered somewhat more effective. They are not very popular, however, because radioactive material is present in their construction, which causes concern in many people. However, they are built in such a way that they do not have harmful effects on humans.

Does the smoke detector detect e-cigarettes?

Traditional smoke detectors have no way of detecting vaping. This is because the particles in vaporization aerosol are different from those in smoke, less dense and smaller. As a result, the sensors do not detect them unless the concentration of vapor is high and the device is sensitive. It should be noted, however, that increasingly sophisticated sensors are now being developed that are capable of detecting vaping.

How to choose the perfect smoke detector for your home and where to install it?

Choosing the right smoke detector is very important. You should pay attention to such issues as how the smoke detector is powered, as well as the area it is able to cover. It should be tailored to how large your room is. Moreover, you should also check its volume level. It should be loud enough to be able to hear the alarm from the other room. A detector that also detects chad or other life-threatening gases can be a good choice.

Proper placement of the smoke detector is very important. You should have several devices in different places in the house, so that they provide maximum safety. They are usually placed where the risk of fire is greatest. So first, install a smoke detector in the kitchen. This device is also useful wherever it is easy for water to come into contact with the electrical system (such as in the bathroom) and where there are many cables in one place (such as in the living room). Mount smoke detectors away from anything that could interfere with their operation, such as a window, a vent or a gas stove. It is best to place them in the center of the ceiling. Carefully read the specifications of the device you choose and, based on this, decide what room it should be placed in.

Smoke detectors can prove to be what saves lives and property in the face of a fire. They are a guarantee of safety. It is definitely worth investing in these devices and taking care of your home.
